Elvis Presley 1955, hand-drawn at RCA Studios, December 1, 1955 with a borrowed guitar and a vintage RCA 44A microphone, age 20.

Elvis was in New York December 1st 1955 to meet with the Colonel and RCA executives, including president Larry Kanaga and publicity director Anne Fulchino.
A photo shoot had been arranged and pictures of Elvis and the Colonel, Elvis and Steve Sholes and Elvis and fellow RCA recording artists Eddy Arnold who happened to be in New York for a session.
The photo was taken in RCA’s 24th Street studio, along with posed action shots that were used on the back of Elvis’ first album.

Presley’s first album, “Rock’N’Rock” was released by RCA Victor on March 23, 1956; catalog number LPM-1254.

Actually, there were three “first” albums.
In March of 1956, RCA Victor shipped not one but three new Elvis Presley albums simultaneously.
Each album had the same title (Elvis Presley) and the same cover photo and design. Each album featured tracks from the same pool of twelve recordings that RCA had chosen for release.

In the ’50s, there were two formats for albums: the 33⅓ rpm, long-play album (LP) and the 45 rpm, extended-play album (EP). These new Elvis releases included one LP album and two EP albums.

The album spent ten weeks at number one on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart in 1956, the first rock and roll album ever to make it to the top of the charts, and the first million-selling album of that genre.
Top hit of the album was “Blue Suede Shoes”.
