Frank Zappa 1967 Caricature, illustrated here in his iconic pose of his hair in pigtails, NYC 1967, age 27.
In a career spanning more than 30 years, Frank Zappa composed rock, pop, jazz, jazz fusion, orchestral and musique concrète works, and produced almost all of the 60-plus albums that he released with his band the Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist.
Zappa was considered a genius in the art of self-promotion; knowing his iconic looks were perfect for advertising and promotion, Zappa had hundreds of photos taken of him that were released to the press.
He himself stated, “Most people will remember me from my face and not the music; most people have never heard my music, but everybody knows who I am”.
Zappa died from prostate cancer on December 4, 1993, 17 days before his 53rd birthday at his home with his wife and children by his side.
