Keith Richards 1969 Portrait, illustrated here at Stephen Stills’ house; Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, October 1969, age 26 during the recording of the Stone’s 8th album, “Let It Bleed”.
Stephen Still’s Laurel Canyon home was previously owned by Peter Tork of The Monkees who bought the home from comedian Wally Cox.
The Rolling Stones used the home for rehearsals in October and November 1969 while preparing for their U.S. tour.
Let It Bleed, released shortly after the band’s 1969 American Tour, was the follow-up to the Stone’s 1968’s Beggars Banquet album.
The album was recorded during a period of turmoil in the band; Brian Jones, the band’s founder and original leader, had become increasingly unreliable in the studio due to heavy drug use, and during most recording sessions was either absent, or so incapacitated that he was unable to contribute meaningfully. He was fired in the midst of recording sessions for this album.
Jone’s died within a month of being fired.
“Honkey Tonk Women” was released as a single in July, 1969 and did not appear on the album.
Hits from the album: “Gimme Shelter”, “Let It Bleed”, “Midnight Rambler” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.
