Stevie Nicks JFK Stadium 1978, hand-drawn performing with Fleetwood Mac/Rumours Tour at the JFK Stadium, Philadelphia, PA, on Sunday July 30, 1978 age 30.
Nicks is best known for her work as a songwriter and vocalist with Fleetwood Mac, and also for her chart-topping solo career.
She is known for her distinctive voice, mystical stage persona, and poetic, symbolic lyrics.
Nicks also crafted an utterly singular sartorial style, one that embodies the mysticism of her work and enhances her larger-than-life stage persona.
Described by the singer, herself, as “something urchin like out of ‘Great Expectations’ or ‘A Tale of Two Cities,’” Stevie’s signature look takes in layers of chiffon and lace, theatrical top hats, velvet platform boots, celestial jewellery and a collection of shawls that numbers in the hundreds.
“Rumours”, Fleetwood Mac’s second album (1977) after the incorporation of Nicks and Buckingham, was the best-selling album of the year.
The Rumours album won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1978.
Before joining Fleetwood Mac, Nicks wrote “Rhiannon” and “Landslide”; noting that “Lindsey and I went up to Aspen, and we went to somebody’s incredible house, and they had a piano, and I had my guitar with me, and I went into their living room, looking out over the incredible, like, Aspen sky way, and I wrote “Landslide” … three months later, Mick Fleetwood called.”
“Rumours” produced a list of hits: “Second Hand News”, “Dreams”, “Don’t Stop”, “Go Your Own Way”, “The Chain”, “You Make Lovin’ Fun”, “Gold Dust Woman”.
Nicks has said that her vocal style and performance antics evolved from female singers like Grace Slick and Janis Joplin.
