Collectively, her work both as a member of Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist has produced over 40 top-50 hits and sold over 140 million records, making her one of the best-selling music acts of all time with Fleetwood Mac.
“Rumours”, Fleetwood Mac’s second album after the incorporation of Nicks and Buckingham, was the best-selling album of the year of its release, and to date, has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it the fifth-highest selling studio album of all time. The album remained at number one on the American albums chart for 31 weeks and reached Number One in various countries worldwide. The album won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1978. It produced four U.S. top-10 singles, with Nicks’ “Dreams” being the band’s first and only U.S. number-one hit.
Before joining Fleetwood Mac, Nicks wrote “Rhiannon” and “Landslide”; noting that “Lindsey and I went up to Aspen, and we went to somebody’s incredible house, and they had a piano, and I had my guitar with me, and I went into their living room, looking out over the incredible, like, Aspen sky way, and I wrote “Landslide” … three months later, Mick Fleetwood called.”
“Rumours” produced a list of hits: “Second Hand News”, “Dreams”, “Don’t Stop”, “Go Your Own Way”, “The Chain”, “You Make Lovin’ Fun”, “Gold Dust Woman”.
Nicks has said that her vocal style and performance antics evolved from female singers like Grace Slick and Janis Joplin.
