Stevie Ray Vaughan 1983, age 29, hand-drawn with his iconic pride and joy 1963 Fender Stratocaster #1, (1963 body, with a 1962 neck, and pickups dated from 1959) which he affectionately dubbed his “first wife”.
SRV was an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. In spite of a short-lived mainstream career spanning seven years, he was one of the most influential guitarists in the revival of blues in the 1980’s.
Vaughan’s music took root in blues, rock, and jazz. He was influenced by the work of artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, B.B. King, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Buddy Guy, Howlin’ Wolf, Otis Rush, Guitar Slim, Chuck Berry, and Muddy Waters. He was also influenced by jazz guitarists like Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, and George Benson.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Vaughan began playing guitar at the age of seven, inspired by his older brother Jimmie. In 1977 at age 23, he formed his own group, Triple Threat Revue, before renaming the band Double Trouble (taken from an Otis Rush song title) after hiring drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon.
He gained fame after his performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982, and in 1983 his debut studio album, “Texas Flood”, charted at number 38. The ten-song album was a commercially successful release that sold over half a million copies.
Subsequent albums enjoyed great success: 1984 “Couldn’t Stand The Weather”, 1985 “Soul To Soul”, 1986 “Live Alive” and the final album, 1989 “In Step” which won a Grammy.
Vaughan’s hits: “Pride And Joy”, “Love Struck Baby”, “Dirty Pool”, “Voodoo Chile'(Slight Return)”, “Change It”, “Cold Shot”, “Look At Little Sister”, “Life By The Drop”, “Crossfire”, “Hard To Be” and “Scuttle Buttin'”.
On Monday, August 27, 1990, at 12:50 a.m., Vaughan and members of Eric Clapton’s touring entourage boarded a Bell 206B Helicopter at Alpine Valley Resort in East Troy, Wisconsin, to travel to Midway International Airport in Chicago, after he concluded an all-star encore jam session at Alpine Valley Music Theatre.
The designated helicopter originally had three seats available, but Vaughan ultimately took the last remaining seat. The helicopter crashed into a nearby ski hill shortly after takeoff, about 3,000 feet from a golf course. Vaughan and the four others on board—pilot Jeff Brown, agent Bobby Brooks, bodyguard Nigel Browne, and tour manager Colin Smythe, were all killed.
Vaughan was 35 years old. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Vaughan as the twelfth greatest guitarist of all time. In 2015, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

32″ x 40″ stretch canvas print is produced by Giclee printing process and are hand stretched over heavy duty American made white pine. The canvas print is varnished twice after printing. The canvas prints are ready to hang (complete with hanging wire).
