The Turtles Caricature

$95.00$495.00

The Turtles Caricature, illustrated here in Los Angeles, 1975 with Mark Volman (Flo) and Howard Kaylan (Eddie) both age 28.

Volman and Kaylan founded The Turtles, a popular band of the late 1960s.
The band had several Top 40 hits beginning in 1965 with their cover version of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe”. They scored their biggest and best-known hit in 1967 with the song “Happy Together”.

Other hits: “She’d Rather Be With Me”, “You Know What I Mean”, “She’s My Girl”, “Sound Asleep”, “You Showed Me”, “The Story Of Rock And Roll” and “Elenore”.
The band broke up in 1970.

After The Turtles demise, Volman and Kaylan discovered that the terms of their contract forbade them to use not only the name ‘The Turtles’, but also their own names.
So Volman used the pseudonym “Flo” (abbreviation from “Phlorescent Leech”), and Howard Kaylan became “Eddie”.

Kaylan and Volman were recruited by Frank Zappa, joining the Mothers of Invention, and they also worked together as Flo & Eddie in music, in film (they provided music and voices for animated films like Down and Dirty Duck), and in radio broadcasting.
In 1971 Volman appeared on the soundtrack to Zappa’s humorous pseudo-documentary film, 200 Motels.

Kaylan and Volman sang backing vocals on several recordings by T. Rex, including their worldwide hit “Get it On (Bang A Gong)”.

In 2015, Kaylan and Volman celebrated their 50th year, touring and performing more than 60 concerts a year, billed as “The Turtles … Featuring Flo & Eddie” with their Happy Together Tour, a classic revue-format show featuring some popular bands of the mid-to-late 1960s musical era.
During this tour in 2015, Volman was diagnosed with throat cancer, but was declared cancer-free in 2016.
